How the finder works, and where it can be wrong
When you enter an address, it is sent to the U.S. Census Bureau's public geocoding service, which returns a latitude and longitude. That point is then tested against city and county boundary polygons from the Census Bureau's TIGERweb data, simplified to roughly two hundred feet so the file stays small enough to load quickly. Nothing you type is sent to us and nothing is stored.
Two consequences. An address a few hundred feet from a municipal boundary can fall on the wrong side of a simplified polygon, so the tool flags results near a line and tells you to confirm with the office. And a very new address may not be in the geocoder yet, in which case the tool falls back to a ZIP-based answer, which is less precise because several ZIP codes here span both city and county.
What to do with the answer
The result tells you the jurisdiction and summarises what that office requires for a driveway, a patio or slab, and pavers. It is a starting point for a conversation, not an authority. For anything that matters, the jurisdiction pages on this site quote the official source and give the office's phone number, and the office itself is the final word.
If you are getting quotes, the most useful thing to do with the result is to tell each bidder which office applies and ask how they intend to handle the permit. A contractor who works this county daily will answer without hesitating; one who does not will often propose to skip it, which is the answer you were looking for.

Does the finder store my address?
No. Your browser sends it to the Census geocoder and checks the result against boundary data on this site; nothing reaches us.
How accurate are the boundaries?
Census 2024 TIGERweb polygons simplified to about 200 feet. Within a few hundred feet of a city line, confirm with the county property appraiser or the city.
My address is in Davenport but the finder says Polk County?
Most Davenport addresses are unincorporated Polk; only the small historic core is inside the city. The same is true of ChampionsGate (Osceola, not Polk) and many 'Kissimmee' addresses (county, not city).
What if the geocoder is down?
Use the ZIP lookup; it gives the likely county and the offices to call.
